Jeff Lemire Gets Real

November 18, 2008 on 4:25 pm | In Art Stuff, Cartoonists

Jeff Lemire, the cartoonist behind the acclaimed Essex Country Trilogy (Tales From The Farm, Ghost Stories and The Country Nurse), reposts his guest entry from a Portland bookstore blog giving a look into the real Essex County his books were based on.

All of my stories start with the setting, and even more than that, location totally informs how my characters and plots grow and take shape. The Essex County books (Tales From The Farm, Ghost Stories, The Country Nurse), all started when I decided to do a book set in the tiny Canadian farming town where I grew up.

Check it out.

Farel…

October 20, 2008 on 9:38 pm | In Art Stuff, Cartoonists

Farel Darymple has been posting more images on his blog lately. Like this one…

Pretty face melting stuff.

Dalrymple recently finished up a 10-issue Omega the Unknown series at Marvel with novelist Jonathan Lethem, colored by Paul Hornschemeier. Wikipedia says he’s currently working on Pop Gun War Vol. 2, which if true is very cool news.

Fears of the Dark Trailer

October 1, 2008 on 12:23 am | In Cartoonists, Hollywood?

Go take a gander at the Fears of the Dark trailer over at Apple. Fears of the Dark is an anthology style animated horror movie directed by six different graphic artists—including Charles Burns of Black Hole fame. From what I can tell, Burns’ segment involves giant preying mantis. Awesome.

The animation is obviously based on Burns’ own artwork and is just fantastic. Check out a still from the Burns directed segment below.
